D'Voice-Morning news

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers

1. Senator Dino Melaye was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja Thursday morning.

Melaye’s abduction was confirmed by Senator representing Bayelsa East in the National Assembly, Ben Bruce. However, the Nigeria Police Force said it was yet to receive any complaint or report in any of its Police Stations or Divisions throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the development.

2. Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal is set return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to fulfill his ambition of becoming Nigeria’s President in 2019.

Sources told DAILY POST Thursday night that the reason for Tambuwal’s defection was not entirely because of the crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) but his ambition to lead the nation in 2019, knowing that President Buhari would get the APC ticket.

3. The Nigerian Army and the Police on Thursday repelled an attack by Boko-Haram insurgents who attempted to invade Jakana town in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno.

Reports say that dozens of the insurgents armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the town at about 5.30 pm but were repelled by the gallant troops.

5. Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed has hinted that he might dump the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Governor Ahmed while reacting to the requests of various stakeholders in Kwara Central Senatorial District on him to dump the APC, said the leadership of the ruling party had failed to intervene on critical issues affecting the party and its members, pointing out that injustice within the party was unbearable.

6. The Presidency has appealed to the National Assembly to suspend the ongoing recess and attend to requests by President Muhammadu Buhari pending before the legislature.

The Presidency pleaded with the lawmakers to reconvene and approve Buhari’s requests in the interest of the country, adding that the development would frustrate some organs of the government.

7. Founder and Leader of the Biafra Independence Movement and Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (BIM-MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has declared that no group of persons in Nigeria have the monopoly of violence against any section or tribe.

Uwazuruike said despite the non-violence approach of his organisation, MASSOB–BIM could defend the Igbo if attacked by aggressors.

8. Catholic Archbishop of Jos and former President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to fish out foreigners and local collaborators involved in the killing of villagers across the country.

Rev. Kaigama said if foreign invaders, as alleged, are the cause, security agents on whom trillions of naira are being spent should smoke them and their local collaborators.

9. Elder statesmen from the Southern Nigeria and the Middle Belt have alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, registered foreigners and underage voters in Northern Nigeria.

Consequently, the elders rejected the current voters’ register, asking the INEC to discard it.

10. A former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he would only throw his weight behind any Nigerian who will turn the country’s fortune.

Obasanjo reaffirmed that he would not rest until the fortunes of Nigeria are “turned around for good.”

Have a great weekend TGIF

“Senatorial candidates are to be screened on Wednesday, August 29, while that of the governorship and presidential aspirants will be on August 30.

“The party also fixed different dates for appeal for all the categories of the offices.”

Secondus, in his prayer in the memo, called on the NEC to “exercise its powers under Section 31 (2) of our party constitution and approve the proposed timetable and schedule of activities.”

Governor Aregbesola was reportedly not around when the inferno broke out. Report says the fire started from an air conditioner, which was inside the governor’s office but was later put off.

2. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, alongside three others from the party. The spokesperson of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, announced the expulsion at the end of an emergency NEC meeting in Abuja. Mr Kashamu was expelled alongside Bayo Adebayo, Segun Sarki and Sanimu Sodipo; all from Ogun State.

3. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has asked Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to appear at the office of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Abuja, over the robbery incident that took place in Offa, Kwara state, in April this year. In a letter dated July 23 and addressed to Saraki, the police IG asked the Senate President to be at IRT’s office at 8 am on Tuesday “for further investigation”.

4. In a swift reaction, the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has stated that the invitation to him by the Police to report to a station in Guzape over the Offa robbery investigation was a mere afterthought, designed to achieve a political purpose. Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said that the Police had already decided on the suspects to arraign in court in Ilorin, Kwara State on Wednesday and that the turn around to invite him was a ploy aimed at scoring cheap political points.

5. Buba Galadima, Chairman of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (r-APC), his son and two others escaped death after involving in a ghastly car accident on Monday. Reports have it that the incident happened when Galadima was returning from Yobe State, where he went to condole with his brother, who recently lost his daughter. It was gathered that Galadima was driving with his son, Sadiq and two others when their SUV somersaulted along Hadeija-Kano road. They all survived the incident.

6. Amaju Pinnick, the embattled factional Chairman of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has returned to his office. Earlier, the Department of State Service, DSS ejected embattled President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Chris Giwa from the Glass House. Giwa and his staff who were told by the Nigerian Government to occupy the NFF secretariat on July 2, on Monday made a U-turn, asking them to vacate the premises immediately.

7. The Borno State Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu, has confirmed the killing of eight worshippers after a suspected suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Konduga town of Borno State in the early hours of Monday. Chukwu disclosed this on Monday at a news conference in Maiduguri, while speaking on the deadly attack. According to him, the suspect, who disguised as a worshiper; also injured six persons.

8. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed the four major items, on the agenda of their 80th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Monday. During the meeting, the schedule of activities leading to the 2019 elections was approved. Earlier, Senator Kashamu Buruji and three others from the Ogun State Chapter were expelled from the party. PDP also confirmed they will contest the result of the Ekiti governorship election that held July 14.

9. National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has charged members of the party across the country that Nigerians are looking up to them to halt the disastrous slide in the state of the nation. According to a statement from his media office and signed by media Adviser, Ike Abonyi, Secondus said that the situation in the country demands that all hands must be on deck to see off the incompetent APC regime.

10. The Deputy Governor-Elect of Ekiti, Bisi Egbeyemi, has said that Governor Ayo Fayose planned to use last-minute recruitment drive to win the July 14 governorship election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but failed. He described the employment forms released by the Fayose administration before the governorship poll in the state as fraudulent, warning prospective jobs seekers to be wary.

D'Voice-NBZ morning news

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, the Senator representing Osun West, has won the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The senator defeated his closest rival, Akin Ogunbiyi, to emerge the flagbearer of the PDP in the September 22 governorship election. Adeleke won by a close margin, securing 1569 votes while Ogunbiyi had 1562 of the votes.

2. Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, insisted that more people have died since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed power than those killed in “Iraq and Afghanistan” put together. The Waziri of Adamawa said this during his declaration to run for the office of the president in 2019. He spoke in Yola, Adamawa State.

3. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was planning to boycott the 2019 general elections because they know the end of the party has come. He made this comment when the Osun State primary election result was submitted to him by the Chairman of the election committee and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.

4. The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has said he will honour the invitation extended to him by the police. He disclosed this a day after the police accused some persons in his convoy of attacking their personnel in Kogi State. The Kogi lawmaker, however, described the claim by the police as false.

5. Report claims that the All Progressives Congress has offered its aggrieved National Assembly members automatic tickets in their various constituencies if they remain with the party. This is to stop the planned mass defection of the lawmakers from the party.

6. Report has it that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mallam Yusuf Ali, has been contracted by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in last Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, to lead his legal team to challenge the victory of Governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, at the election tribunal.

7. Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have shot and murdered one of the youth leaders of the People’s Democratic Party in Imo state, Chidi Eburuaja. Eburuaja, until his death was the PDP youth leader in Owerre Nkworji, the political ward of the House Of Representatives Committee Chairman on Banking and Currency, Jones Onyereri.

8. Report says an accident involving the convoy of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has led to the death of one person while 20 others sustained various degrees of injury. Officer-in-Charge of a local security outfit, Gombe State Marshal, Mr. Sunday Jika, who was on the minister’s entourage, confirmed the accident to journalists in Gombe on Saturday.

9. The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has come hard on the presidency for attacking the coalition of Nigerian socio-political groups. In a statement entitled “This Insensitive Presidency”, signed by its president, Yerima Shettima, it said instead of facing the honest assessment of the killing fields Nigeria has become under this government the Presidency resorted to crude attacks and motor park insults.

10. Troops of the 233 Battalion deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole have killed scores of Boko Haram insurgents after they were ambushed by some elements of Boko Haram Insurgents along Sasawa Road in Babangida Local Government Area of Yobe state.

HAPPY SUNDAY

D'Voice morning news

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki is allegedly seeking at least N10 billion in monetary compensation from President Muhammadu Buhari in a high stakes deal as part of conditions to remain in the ruling party.

Saraki, who is the arrowhead of the splinter group of the APC, Reformed All Progressives Congress, R-APC, is also demanding that he returns as Senate President in 2019 should the APC emerge victorious in the 2019 general elections as part of the agreement.

The Kwara State native and his group have threatened to leave the party for the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, if his terms are not met.

THEWILL gathered authoritatively from a source privy to the negotiations that Saraki, who is still ecstatic following his victory at the Supreme Court over charges of false assets declaration, is going for the jugular of the president and the ruling party over his perceived politically motivated prosecution, which lasted about 3years.

“President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, our National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole have been begging and urging Saraki to remain in the party because he is central to our plan to win in the North Central, where marauders masquerading as Fulani-herdsmen have killed hundreds of people and made our party look weak,” our authoritative source said.

The very influential politician amongst members of the National Assembly and his home state Kwara, who somehow managed to survive the onslaught of the presidency after defying his party to emerge Senate President via a forbidden alliance with the PDP, has been openly meeting and flirting with leaders of the PDP and is believed to be ready to dump the APC. In fact, some of his associates sympathetic to the group have already formally exited the party.

The R-APC, a group of aggrieved members of the ruling APC claim they have been sidelined by the party and have been in talks with the PDP, where most of them were before their mass defection to the APC just before the 2015 general polls.

THE WILL also gathered authoritatively that Saraki has been negotiating with Oshiomhole via telephone all week and on Thursday met with Buhari, Osinbajo and some APC Governors that are very close to Buhari – Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Abdul’ aziz Abubakar Yari (Zamfara), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) and Governor-elect of Ekiti (Kayode Fayemi) at the presidential villa for about 50 minutes.

Saraki declined to speak to the press after Thursday evening’s meeting. “Nah! I have no comments,” he said as he slid into the back seat of a sleek Mercedes Benz S-500 that brought him to the President’s office.

The other governors also declined to speak to state house correspondents.
